On3 Technologies, a world-class, data-driven product development company headquartered in Union Station at Minute Maid Park, is one of Houston’s most exciting startups and the newest member of Crane Capital Group, Inc., the holding company for Jim Crane’s various entities, including the Houston Astros. On3 is seeking a number of energetic, ambitious technology professionals to design and develop next-generation analytics software.

The Data Engineer will join On3 as an integral team member creating a next-generation data science and data visualization product in partnership with a Houston based world championship sports franchise. Candidates must be comfortable developing scalable, sustainable, and secure systems and infrastructure. Comfort working in a self-driven, startup-like environment is a must. The project leverages Agile/Scrum development methodology; Agile software development experience is a plus. Looking for candidates with experience in DML/DDL, stored procedures, ETL, T-SQL, SQL Server and SSIS.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Data Engineer will be primarily responsible for developing and maintaining a distributed data warehouse to support the needs of the data science team. This includes managing ETL for existing and new data sources, creating new data repositories and projections from this to support various business needs, and assisting with the migration from the current database to the new system. The data engineer will work with data scientists and architects to determine which data must be "point-in-time" enabled and incorporate this into the data structures. He/She will help the data scientists to store information regarding their model calculations including versioning information for all relevant inputs.

QUALIFICATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE

  • 4 to 6 years of overall development experience
  • Database development: DDL/DML including stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views
  • Working knowledge of NoSQL concepts and technologies
  • Experience with cloud environments (Azure, AWS)
  • Experience with creating database schemas for a variety of purposes (data warehouse, OLAP, OLTP)
  • Experience working with databases, preferably SQL Server and SSIS
  • Languages: T-SQL, C#
  • Ability to work within an agile team
  • Critical thinking & problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of data stewardship and governance and the ability to communicate these to stakeholder throughout the business
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; 5 years of cumulative experience will be considered in lieu of degree
  • Strong knowledge of how databases and ETL software function

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Big Data processing tools (Hadoop, Spark, Cassandra)
  • Service based architectures
  • R and Python
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is desirable, but not required
